I will show you how to speed up your torrent download speed if you are using bsnl broadband and the bittorrent clent.
Its quiet simple though.
1.First you need to check whether you have port forwarding enabled in your router.
2.To do that open up bittorent client and press ctrl+g in your keyboard and click on "check if port is forwarded properly".
3.Your browser will open a page, in which if it shows
"OK! Port xxxxx is open and accepting connections."
then you can skip this step
or
if it shows something like:-
! "An error has occurred!
Port xxxxx does not appear to be open."
# Then go to your routers configuration by typing "192.168.1.1" (without quotes) to the address bar (in some cases 192.168.1.2) of your browser.
# When it asks for username and password just type in "admin" (without quotes) into both fields.
# Now navigate to where it says NAT - virtual server setup- or something similar( it may vary depending upon your router model and/or brand).
# Now set up port forwarding with a random port (with server name BitTorrent and your ip address) that bittorent shows when pressing ctrl + g, just make sure you use the same port in the bittorrent client.
# In case if you don't know your IP address her's how to get it:- open up cmd and type in "ipconfig/all"(without quotes), the Ipv4 address will be your IP address.
4. Now that you have set up port forwarding its time to change some settings with bittorrent client....
like :- options > preferences > Bandwidth :- set maximum number of connection to something like 600-800
and Maximum number of connected peers per torrent to 200-400.
5.Now in the Bandwidth options> Maximum upload rate, make sure you deselect automatic and set it to 0.
6.Apply and exit bittorrent, the next important thing that you should do is to set a different "dns server address".
Now here is how to do it:-
# Navigate to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections(if you are using windows 7, or simply open your network connections in the control panel) and select your default network connection, right click on it and select properties, after that select "internet protocol version v4 (TCP /IPv4)" (i assume you are using vista/windows 7 but don't worry if you are using xp, its something similar in xp, you can sort it out yourself) and click on properties.
# Enter these values- 208.67.222.222 to the prefered DNS server
and 208.67.220.220 to Alternative DNS server.
That's all, and i hope this improves your download speed, typically for bsnl users.
If you can't follow any of those above steps or simply need help please comment.
